The tour then proceeds to the Pisaq archaeological site, which features extensive agricultural terraces and stone buildings. Lunch is provided in the town of Urubamba.

In the afternoon, the tour continues to the town and archaeological site of Ollantaytambo, a well-preserved example of an Inca settlement. What to bring

  • Comfortable Clothing and Footwear: Wear sneakers or other comfortable walking shoes, as you’ll be on your feet a lot. Pack T-shirts, trousers, and shorts. Layering is key in the Andes—a T-shirt, fleece, and jacket will help you adjust to the changing temperatures throughout the day.
  • Rain Gear: If you’re traveling during the rainy season (October – March), a rain poncho or waterproof jacket is essential. Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable, with sudden showers appearing at any time.
  • Sun Protection: The sun at high altitudes is incredibly strong. Don’t forget a sun hat and sunscreen, even on overcast days. A good pair of sunglasses is also highly recommended to protect your eyes.
  • Hydration: Bring bottled water or, even better, a reusable water bottle. Staying hydrated is crucial for acclimatizing to the high altitude and avoiding altitude sickness. You can often refill your bottle at restaurants or hotels.
  • Personal and Medical Supplies: Carry any personal medication you may need, as it might be difficult to find or purchase during your tour. Additionally, it’s wise to pack a small first-aid kit with basic items like band-aids and pain relievers.
  • Money and Electronics: Bring extra money in local currency (Peruvian Soles) for souvenirs, snacks, or tips. Not all vendors accept credit cards, especially in smaller villages. Of course, remember your camera and fully charged batteries to capture the stunning landscapes and historic sites. A portable power bank can also be very useful.
