Travel Guide

The Queswachaka Trip

How long to visit: This is a full-day tour that lasts approximately 12 hours from start to finish. It requires an early departure and involves a lot of travel time, but it offers a unique cultural experience.

Preparation and Recommendations

How to prepare: Get a good night’s sleep before the tour due to the early start. Pack your daypack with layers of warm clothing, sun protection, water, and cash.

Acclimatization: Acclimatizing to the altitude is essential. Spend at least two days in Cusco (3,400m) before taking this tour to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.

Recommendations: Bring cash in small denominations (Peruvian Soles) for the bridge entrance fee and any other potential needs. Charge your camera batteries fully. The drive is long, so you may want to bring a book or music for the travel time.

Tour Experience

Climate: You will experience a high-altitude Andean climate. Expect cold mornings, strong daytime sun, and potential for wind. Weather can change quickly, so layers are key.

The Local People: The Queswachaka bridge is maintained by four local Quechua communities. They are the guardians of this tradition. Always be respectful when visiting, especially when taking photos of people.

Recommended Age: The tour is suitable for most ages, but the very long duration of travel in a vehicle may be difficult for young children or those who get motion sickness easily.
