This two-day tour combines a visit to the main sites of the Sacred Valley with a full tour of Machu Picchu. This itinerary allows for a more relaxed pace, avoiding a single, long day of travel. By spending the night in Aguas Calientes, you can arrive at Machu Picchu early in the morning.
The first day is dedicated to the Sacred Valley. After departing from Cusco, you will travel by private vehicle to visit the archaeological sites of Pisac and Ollantaytambo. The tour includes a buffet lunch in Urubamba. In the afternoon, you will board a train from Ollantaytambo for the scenic trip to Aguas Calientes, where you will check into your hotel for the night.
Day two focuses entirely on Machu Picchu. You will take an early bus up to the citadel for a guided tour that explains the history and function of the site’s most important structures. Afterward, you will have additional time to see more of the complex on your own before returning to Cusco by train and bus in the evening.
We will travel by private transport from Cusco to visit key locations in the Sacred Valley, including the archaeological sites at Pisac and Ollantaytambo, with a stop for a buffet lunch in Urubamba. In the afternoon, we will take the train from the Ollantaytambo station to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in a hotel.
Early in the morning, we take a bus up to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, you will have a guided tour of the site for approximately 2 hours. After the tour, you will have the rest of the day to discover and enjoy more of Machu Picchu on your own. In the evening, we return by train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, where our bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco.

Train Upgrade: For any of the group packages, you can upgrade to the Vistadome train for an additional $95 per person.

How long to visit: This is a 2-day, 1-night tour. It is a well-paced option that allows you to see the main highlights without being too rushed.
Acclimatization: Plan to arrive in Cusco at least 48 hours before your tour begins to properly adjust to the high altitude. This will help prevent altitude sickness.
How to prepare: Book this tour well in advance, as Machu Picchu tickets and train tickets sell out, especially during the high season (June-August). Pack only a small overnight bag for the trip.
Recommendations: Wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Keep your passport and tickets in a safe, accessible place.
Climate: The Sacred Valley has a temperate and dry climate. Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu are in a subtropical cloud forest, which means conditions can be warm, humid, and misty, with a high chance of rain at any time of year.
The Local People: The people in the Sacred Valley and Aguas Calientes are very accustomed to tourism. Aguas Calientes is a town built almost entirely to serve visitors to Machu Picchu.
Recommended Age: This tour is suitable for all ages and is a great option for families, couples, or individuals who prefer not to do a multi-day hike.
What meals are included in the 2-day tour? A buffet lunch in Urubamba on Day 1 and breakfast at the hotel in Aguas Calientes on Day 2 are included. You are responsible for dinner on Day 1 and lunch on Day 2.
Do I absolutely need to bring my original passport? Yes, your original passport is required. It will be checked against your train ticket and Machu Picchu entrance ticket. Photocopies are not accepted.
How much time do we spend at Machu Picchu? The tour includes a 2-hour guided visit. After that, you will have several hours of free time to see the site on your own before you need to return to Aguas Calientes for your train.
What should I do with my main luggage? You will only take a small overnight bag to Aguas Calientes. Your main luggage can be safely stored at your hotel in Cusco.
Is the train luggage allowance limited? Yes, train companies have a strict limit of one bag or backpack weighing no more than 5-8 kg (11-17 lbs).
Is this tour considered physically difficult? No, it is not a trek. However, it involves a lot of walking at the archaeological sites, which include many stairs and uneven surfaces. A moderate level of fitness is beneficial.
Can I climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain on this tour? No, the standard tour does not include tickets for these optional climbs. These tickets must be purchased far in advance along with your main Machu Picchu entrance and are subject to availability.
Is it necessary to acclimatize before this tour? Yes, it is highly recommended to spend at least one or two days in Cusco (3,400m) to acclimatize to the altitude before starting the tour.
What kind of hotel is provided in Aguas Calientes? The tour includes a standard, clean, and comfortable tourist-class hotel with a private bathroom and hot water.
What is the best way to get from the hotel to the bus station in Aguas Calientes? Aguas Calientes is a very small town, and everything is within easy walking distance. Your guide will provide instructions.
