This five-day tour takes you from the city of Cusco deep into the Manu National Park, a protected area in the Amazon rainforest. The journey begins with a drive from the high Andes mountains down into the cloud forest, showing a rapid change in landscape and climate. The route includes stops at historical sites and high-altitude passes before reaching the jungle lowlands.
The main part of the trip involves travel by motorized boat on the rivers that serve as roads in the Amazon. You will stay in basic lodges and camp in tents, allowing for direct contact with the natural environment. Activities include guided walks through the jungle to observe local plants and animals, visits to a lake to see specific bird species, and searching for nocturnal wildlife after dark.
The tour is focused on wildlife observation and experiencing the rainforest. You will visit a clay lick used by parrots and macaws and explore different areas of the jungle, including the Bonanza Ecological Reserve. The trip combines lodge stays with nights spent camping in tents. The final day involves a return trip by boat and bus back to Cusco.
On our first day adventure into the Manu amazon, we pick you up at 5:30 a.m. from your hotel, in our private vehicle. The first part of our excursion drive us through the Vilcanota mountain range and small villages as Huancarani, Pirhuayani the high pass (4725 m, 15583 feet) and a small Pre-inca culture, of Lupacas and its Funeral towers of Ninamarca. Then continue on to Paucartambo, famous because of colonial past, and its folklore town. a short drive take us to the famous cloud forest which has interesting flora and fauna like the Andean Cock of the Rock Peru’s national bird, where show us an impressive array of sounds and colours that can only be found in the jungle. then arrive to Asuncion and overnight at Bamboo Lodge.
On the way to Atalaya we stop to appreciate different species of animals, especially birds, and dramatic scenery of the jungle, observed an coca leaf plantations, we then cross by motorized boat downriver toward our lodge where we have a walk later in the afternoon we visit Machuwasi (lake) for 3 hours and with Telescope and Binoculars we appreciate many families of hoatzins (primitive bird), horned screamer, hawk, herons, capybara (largest rodent in the world) and on a lucky day a anaconda. Returning to the lodge and having a dinner, we then continue a night walk in the jungle to look for spiders, snakes and lot tree frogs. We will spend the night in our comfortable lodge
At daybreak we go on a morning trek through the jungle to enjoy the Amazon Jungle most impressive spectacles, the amazing Sounds of the birds, we will explore the jungle such the primary and secondary forest having many opportunities to see wildlife such a monkeys, anteaters, Peccaries and many different types of trees and medicinal plants. In the afternoon we will arrive at our camping place in the middle of the jungle, where our cook is going to be ready with some tasty snacks , we will go fishing and late in the afternoon we will go to search for some caiman. Tonight we camp and will sleep in tents.
After breakfast we will go to the Jungle again to see, where we will have a chance to see a rich biodiversity of birds, monkeys, exotic plants and maybe the famous jaguar. This day we have a short walk in the forest for 3 hours. Getting to our lodge, we will have time for shower and lunch. Afterwards we will travel by boat for 3 hours up stream, arriving to Muyuna Parrots Clay Lick, where will spend our last night with a barbecue and campfire. This night we camp and sleep in tents. Optional tonight is a night walk.
We will leave from Muyuna Parrots Clay Lick early in the morning to go to the Port Atalaya. From here we will take the bus directly to Cusco passing through the Cloud Forest.
The best time to visit Manu is during the dry season, from April to October. During these months, there is less rain, river levels are lower, and trails are less muddy. The wet season, from November to March, sees more rain, but the forest is often more active with fruiting trees attracting wildlife.

Acclimatization is crucial because the tour starts in Cusco (3,400m) and crosses a high pass (over 4,700m). To prevent altitude sickness, it is mandatory to spend at least two to three days in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before starting the tour. During this time, drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals and alcohol, and rest.
Accommodation is a mix of basic jungle lodges with shared rooms and bathrooms, and nights spent camping in two-person tents in the reserve.
