Itinerary

DAY 1OLLANTAYTAMBO TOUR

This tour provides a detailed exploration of Ollantaytambo and its surrounding archaeological sites, going beyond the main park to reveal a more complete picture of the Inca presence in the area.

The journey begins at 7:30 AM from Cusco, heading towards the Pachar Valley. The first stop is at the ruins of Ñaupa Iglesia, a unique temple built inside a cave.

As the tour approaches Ollantaytambo, you will visit the agricultural terraces of Qellorakay. You will then see the famous “tired stones”—giant megalithic rocks that were left behind during their transportation from the Cachicata quarries to the main temple complex.

Inside the Ollantaytambo archaeological park, the guided visit covers its most sacred and important constructions, including the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Moon, the Temple of the Condor, and the ceremonial Inca water fountains.

The tour concludes by exploring two key outlying sites: the Inca defensive bastion of Pumamarca and the extensive system of agricultural terraces at Pata Pata.

Sites Visited

  • Ñaupa Iglesia: A temple built within a natural cave, featuring a water font carved with the stepped design of an Inca cross and surrounded by agricultural terraces.

  • Ollantaytambo Ruins (Main Park): The primary complex, located at an elevation of (), contains major structures like the Temple of the Sun with its six finely carved monoliths, ceremonial fountains, and numerous trails with panoramic views.
